1. A method performed by a retinal imaging system to assess function of an eye tracking system, the method comprising:
capturing one or more images of a retina of an eye;
receiving, from the eye tracking system, a location of a pupil of the eye estimated by the eye tracking system;
generating, based on the location of the pupil of the eye, an instruction signal for spatial modulation of light emitted from the retinal imaging system toward the retina;
determining, by the retinal imaging system, one or more eye tracking parameters for the eye, comprising a gaze direction of the eye, using the captured one or more images of the retina while the eye tracking system estimates the one or more eye tracking parameters for the eye, comprising the gaze direction of the eye;
comparing the one or more eye tracking parameters determined by the retinal imaging system with the one or more eye tracking parameters estimated by the eye tracking system; and
outputting an indication of the function of the eye tracking system based on a result of the comparison.
