1. A method of measuring an environmental condition with a sensor of the type that includes a wire having an ultrasonic signal transmission characteristic that varies in response to the environmental condition, the method comprising:
sensing a resonant frequency of ultrasonic energy propagated through the wire in a positive feedback loop while at least a portion of the wire is subjected to the environmental condition; and
determining a value for the environmental condition based upon the sensed resonant frequency.
