1. An auxetic member for load bearing structures, comprising:
a plurality of sections vertically stacked, each section having a width and including a plurality of structural units having ribs with parallel surfaces and ribs with reentrant surfaces, the ribs of each structural unit enclosing a void with parallel surfaces oriented at an angle α relative to a horizontal plane, the void filled with packing material for improving load bearing capacity, Young's modulus of the packing material lower than Young's modulas of the material of the ribs;
a top layer having a first thickness provided at a top end of an uppermost section and a bottom layer having a second thickness, different than the first thickness, at a bottom end of a lowermost section.
