1. An aerosol generating device for heating an aerosol generating article to generate an aerosol for inhalation by a user, the aerosol generating device comprising:
an induction coil;
a heating compartment arranged to receive the aerosol generating article; and
a projecting element which projects into the heating compartment so that at least part of the projecting element is positioned inside an aerosol generating article received, in use, in the heating compartment;
wherein the projecting element comprises a plurality of projecting elements which project into the heating compartment from opposite ends of the heating compartment,
wherein at least part of the projecting element is inductively heatable, by the induction coil, in the presence of a time varying electromagnetic field, and
wherein the projecting element is removably mounted on the aerosol generating device.
