1. A system comprising:
a first wireless communication device configured to establish a communication channel with a mobile communication device, wherein the first wireless communication device is at a first position in a physical access control system, and wherein the first wireless communication device is configured to:
receive a mobile access control token (MACT) from the mobile communication device via the communication channel;
assess a validity of the MACT; and
provide the mobile communication device with a response based on the first wireless communication device's validity assessment for the MACT, wherein the response provided by the first wireless communication device enables the mobile communication device to present an access control token (ACT) or another credential derived from the ACT to a second wireless communication device configured to assess a validity of the ACT or the credential derived from the ACT based on the presentation of the ACT or the credential derived from the ACT by the mobile communication device, wherein the second wireless communication device is at a second position in the physical access control system that is internal with respect to the first position.
