1. A method for encoding an image into a video signal, comprising:
in a first stage, performing:
generating a forward reshaping mapping to map a source image of a first dynamic range to a corresponding forward reshaped image of a second dynamic range lower than the first dynamic range; and
in a second stage, performing:
generating, by spatially downsampling the source image of the first dynamic range, an image of the first dynamic range and of a first spatial resolution;
computing, using the forward reshaping mapping, a luminance-dependent noise strength;
injecting noise with the luminance-dependent noise strength into the image of the first dynamic range and of the first spatial resolution to generate a noise injected image of the first dynamic range and the first spatial resolution;
applying the forward reshaping mapping to map the noise injected image of the first dynamic range and the first spatial resolution to generate a noise embedded image of the second dynamic range and the first spatial resolution; and
encoding into a video signal the noise embedded image of the second dynamic range and the first spatial resolution.
