1. A method comprising:
displaying, by a first terminal of a communication system, a first interface of a first instant messaging application;
displaying, by the first terminal in the first interface, device identifiers of a plurality of devices corresponding to a second user, wherein the second user is registered with a second instant messaging application on the plurality of devices of the communication system, and wherein the first instant messaging application and the second instant messaging application are different applications;
receiving, by the first terminal, a selection of a first device identifier from the device identifiers, wherein a device corresponding to the first device identifier is a second terminal;
initiating, by the first instant messaging application, a first communication to the second user in response to a first operation in the first interface, wherein the first communication comprises a video call, a voice call, or a message; and
displaying, by the second terminal, a second interface of the second instant messaging application, wherein the first communication from a first user is displayed in the second interface, and wherein the first user is a user registered with the first instant messaging application on the first terminal,
wherein the second user is also a user registered with a third instant messaging application on the second terminal, wherein the third instant messaging application and the first instant messaging application are the same application, wherein a switch button is displayed in the first interface, where in, when the switch button is in a first state, the first instant messaging application initiates a communication to the third instant messaging application on the second terminal, and wherein, when the switch button is in a second state, the first instant messaging application initiates a communication to the second instant messaging application on the second terminal.
