1. A gaming system comprising:
a processor; and
a memory device that stores a plurality of instructions that, when executed by the processor for a first play of a game, cause the processor to:
cause a display, by a display device, of a first plurality of symbols at a plurality of symbol display positions associated with a plurality of reels,
responsive to the first plurality of symbols comprising a collectable symbol associated with a first attribute and the first plurality of symbols not comprising any collector symbols, cause a display, by the display device, of an accumulation of that collectable symbol for at least a second, subsequent play of the game,
responsive to the first plurality of symbols comprising the collectable symbol associated with the first attribute and a collector symbol associated with the first attribute, cause a display, by the display device, of a collection of that collectable symbol, wherein any award associated with the first play of the game is at least partially based on any award associated with the collected collectable symbol, and
responsive to the first plurality of symbols comprising the collectable symbol associated with the first attribute and a collector symbol associated with a second, different attribute, cause a display, by the display device, of an accumulation of that collectable symbol for at least the second, subsequent play of the game.
