1. A computer-implemented method of compressing image data comprising one or more data values, the method comprising:
determining a first number of bits for losslessly representing a maximum difference value of difference values representing differences between the data values and an origin value;
using said determined first number of bits to determine a second number of bits; and
forming compressed data, wherein the compressed data comprises representations of the difference values, wherein each of the representations of the difference values uses said determined second number of bits.
