1. A fluid identification system for an automated sampling or dispensing device, comprising:
a surface structure configured to support a fluid container holder configured to receive and support a fluid vessel;
a sample arm assembly including a support coupled with a drive assembly configured to move the support, the sample arm assembly configured to hold a sample probe with at least a portion of the fluid container holder positioned between the sample probe and the surface structure, the sample probe configured to couple with a tube to receive a fluid from the fluid vessel through the sample probe and into the tube; and
an identifier capture device coupled to the support of the sample arm assembly with the surface structure configured for positioning between the fluid container holder and the identifier capture device and with the surface structure configured for positioning between the sample probe and the identifier capture device, the identifier capture device configured to detect at least one of a fluid vessel identifier positioned on the fluid vessel and a fluid container holder identifier positioned on the fluid container holder and to generate a data signal in response thereto, the data signal corresponding to at least one of an expiration status of the fluid within the fluid vessel or an identification of the fluid container holder.
