1. A method of operating a dual hearing protection system, the method comprising: detecting a first hearing protection system and a second hearing protection system; joining the first and second hearing protection systems to a network;
sending a command to the first and second hearing protection systems to switch from an independent mode to a dual protection mode;
causing the first hearing protection system to enter the dual protection mode;
causing the second hearing protection system to enter the dual protection mode;
wherein a dual protection mode sound processing parameter for the first hearing protection system is different than an independent mode sound processing parameter for the first hearing protection system; and
wherein, in the dual protection mode, the first and second hearing protection systems coordinate a first sound processing operation of the first hearing protection system with a second sound processing operation of the second hearing protection system.
