1. A method for implanting an anchoring system in bone, the method comprising:
providing an anchoring system, the anchoring system including:
a first coupling assembly configured to receive and hold a first stabilization element;
a second coupling assembly configured to receive and hold a second stabilization element; and
a plate configured to attach to the first coupling assembly and to the second coupling assembly,
implanting at least one bone screw in the bone;
attaching the first coupling assembly to the at least one bone screw;
coupling the first stabilization element to the first coupling assembly, wherein the first coupling assembly includes a first coupling body that receives and holds the first stabilization element;
coupling the second coupling assembly of the anchoring system to the second stabilization element;
coupling the plate to the first and second coupling assemblies, such that a portion of the plate is seated below the first coupling assembly and above a shaft of the bone screw; and
inserting a first clamp into the first coupling assembly, wherein the first clamp includes a clamp-plate lock configured to engage a plate-clamp lock of the plate to lock the first clamp with respect to the plate,
wherein the plate includes a plate-coupling lock configured to lock the plate to the first coupling body, wherein the first coupling body includes a coupling-plate lock that contacts and engages the plate-coupling lock to lock the plate to the first coupling body, and
wherein the plate-coupling lock includes male locking features and the coupling-plate lock includes female locking features configured to receive the male locking features.
