1. A cartridge for an aerosol-generating system, the cartridge comprising:
a housing having a mouth end opening and an air inlet;
a storage compartment within the housing, the storage compartment configured to contain a liquid aerosol-forming substrate, the storage compartment including a first compartment in fluid communication with a second compartment, the first compartment being in communication with the second compartment via at least one liquid channel defined within the cartridge;
an air flow passage extending from the air inlet to the mouth end opening;
a fluid permeable aerosol-generating element within the housing, the fluid permeable aerosol-generating element having a first planar surface and a second planar surface opposing the first planar surface, the second planar surface being in fluid communication with the second compartment, the first planar surface defining at least part of the air flow passage, the first planar surface being between the first compartment and the second compartment, the storage compartment and the at least one liquid channel being adapted to communicate the liquid aerosol-forming substrate from the first compartment to the second compartment in a first direction before reversing course and communicating the liquid aerosol-forming substrate within the second compartment towards the first planar surface in a second direction, the first direction being opposite to the second direction; and
a removable seal having a seal portion and a tab portion in connection with the seal portion, the seal portion in the air flow passage over the first planar surface of the fluid permeable aerosol-generating element, and the tab portion extending outwardly from the housing through the air inlet.
