1. A method performed by a user equipment (UE) configured to support device-to-device (D2D) communication, the method comprising:
operating in one of two modes for resource allocation, the two modes comprising:
a scheduled resource allocation mode in which the UE requests a resource for D2D communication from a base station and in which the base station schedules the resource for the D2D communication; and
an autonomous resource selection mode in which the UE selects, from a first pool of radio resources, the resource for the D2D communication;
receiving, from the base station, first configuration information indicating a second pool of radio resources and system information comprising second configuration information comprising information indicating a time period for causing the UE to perform the autonomous resource selection mode; and
in a case in which the UE is using the scheduled resource allocation mode, a condition of a number of failures is met, and the time period is ongoing, selecting temporarily, the resource for the D2D communication from the second pool of radio resources.
