1. A system for synchronized media playback, comprising:
a plurality of host devices, each comprising a playlist comprising media items;
one or more user devices;
an app running on the plurality of host devices and the one or more user devices; and
a protocol used by the app and through which the one or more user devices obtains authorization to receive a playlist from a host device selected from the plurality of host devices, the selected host device transmits the playlist of the selected host device to the one or more user devices, and playback of the media items of the playlist is synchronized between the one or more user devices.
