1. A computer-implemented method comprising:
receiving, by at least one processor and from a mobile device, first trip information recorded by an application executing on the mobile device during a trip that may have been undertaken by a connected vehicle, the first trip information including a first location of the connected vehicle and first telematics data for the trip;
in response to receiving the first trip information from the mobile device, transmitting, by the at least one processor, a request for second trip information collected from the connected vehicle, wherein the request is transmitted within a threshold time of receiving the first trip information from the mobile device;
receiving, by the at least one processor, the second trip information, the second trip information including a second location of the connected vehicle and second telematics data for the trip that is different from the first telematics data;
determining, by the at least one processor, that the first location of the connected vehicle is within a threshold distance of the second location of the connected vehicle;
verifying, by the at least one processor, that the mobile device was in the connected vehicle during the trip based at least in part on the determination that the first location of the connected vehicle is within the threshold distance of the second location of the connected vehicle; and
in response to verifying that the mobile device was in the connected vehicle during the trip,
generating, by the at least one processor, an assessment for the connected vehicle or a driver of the connected vehicle using the first telematics data included in the first trip information and the second telematics data included in the second trip information,
wherein transmitting the request within the threshold time of receiving the first trip information from the mobile device improves the accuracy of verifying that the mobile device was in the connected vehicle during the trip, relative to transmitting the request after the threshold time, thereby facilitating a data association among the first trip information and the second trip information.
