1. A method comprising:
decoding encoded transform indices of a plurality of transform coefficients to obtain decoded transform indices, wherein the transform indices that are encoded exploit a probability of occurrence of an index value of a respective transform index of the plurality of transform coefficients, and wherein the encoded transform indices that are decoded (i) have been selected based upon an energy of frequency transformed radio data, (ii) are at least a minimum number of transform indices having more significant transform values than other transform indices associated with the radio data and (iii) exclude the transform coefficient corresponding to a direct current (DC) component;
applying an inverse frequency transform to the plurality of transform coefficients including the decoded transform indices and associated transform values to obtain a reconstructed set of radio data, the reconstructed set of radio data comprising signal strength related values for radio signals with an association of each signal strength related value with a representation of a geographical location; and
providing the reconstructed set of radio data for use in positioning operations.
