1. A composite structural element, comprising:
a concrete member having a first end, a second end, and a first elongated body extending between the first and second ends thereof, the first elongated body having a first length between the first and second ends thereof; and
a hollow member having a first open end, a second open end, and a second elongated body extending between the first and second open ends thereof, the second elongated body having a second length that is shorter than the first length, the second elongated body covering the first elongated body along the second length thereof,
wherein the second length of the second elongated body of the hollow member ranges from about 30% to about 70% of the first length of the first elongated body of the concrete member,
wherein the second elongated body includes a plurality of sidewalls connected to one another and extending between the first and second ends of the second elongated body, the plurality of sidewalls defining an exterior of the second elongated body member and an interior of the second elongated body, and
wherein the composite structure further includes at least one stud connected to a first sidewall from among the plurality of sidewalls in the interior of the second elongated body, the at least one stud being embedded in the first elongated body of the concrete member, thereby connecting the hollow member and the concrete member to one another.
