1. A compound including a nucleotide moiety of the following formula:

R1 is a linking group comprising a C1-C8 alkyl sulfonyl piperidine;
R4, R5, and R6 are each independently selected from the group consisting of hydrogen, —CH3, —OCH3, substituted or unsubstituted C1-8 alkyl, substituted or unsubstituted C2-8 alkenyl, and substituted or unsubstituted C2-8 alkynyl, wherein the substituted alkyl group or the substituted alkenyl group is independently substituted with one or more members selected from the group consisting of a hydroxyl, a halogen, and a carboxyl group;
R7 is a nucleotide moiety of the following formula:
