1. A method for determining a blood pressure value of a patient, the method comprising:
determining a pulse course of the patient;
normalizing the pulse course using a duration of a cardiac cycle as a measure of scale;
selecting a single reference point in the pulse course, wherein:
the single reference point is within a transition area from systole to diastole of the cardiac cycle of the patient;
the single reference point corresponds to a point of inflection in the pulse course; and
the pulse course has a positive rate of change or slope at the point of inflection;
providing a mathematical function for determining the blood pressure value as a function of a time corresponding to the single reference point and an amplitude corresponding to the single reference point, wherein the mathematical function correlates a quotient formed by the time corresponding to the single reference point and the amplitude corresponding to the single reference point to the blood pressure value;
determining the blood pressure value using the mathematical function, wherein the time corresponding to the single reference point and the amplitude corresponding to the single reference point are the only variables inputted to the mathematical function to determine the blood pressure value; and
outputting a warning signal when the determined blood pressure value has reached a predetermined threshold value.
