1. A method of verifying a status of a recalled component, the method comprising:
selecting a first portion of a user interface of a mobile device to actuate a camera of the mobile device to capture first image data of a portion of a first vehicle;
responsive to the selecting the first portion, causing the mobile device to store in metadata of the first image data:
(1) first location data from a GPS sensor and associated with a first location of the mobile device, where the first image data is reproducible as an image of the portion of the first vehicle, and
(2) a first timestamp indicative of a time that the first image data was captured;
determining a first vehicle identification number (VIN) associated with the first vehicle based at least in part on the first image data, the determining the first VIN including decoding a barcode printed on the portion of the first vehicle;
determining that the first vehicle includes a first recalled component based at least in part on the first VIN;
selecting a second portion of the user interface to actuate the camera to capture second image data of a portion of the first recalled component;
responsive to the selecting the second portion, causing the mobile device to store in metadata of the second image data:
(1) second location data from the GPS sensor and associated with a second location of the mobile device, where the second image data is reproducible as an image of at least the portion of the first recalled component, and
(2) a second timestamp indicative of a time that the second image data was captured; and
automatically validating a status of the first recalled component by (i) comparing the first location of the mobile device that is stored in the metadata of the first image data with the second location of the mobile device that is stored in the metadata of the second image data, (ii) determining that the second location of the mobile device is within a predetermined distance of the first location of the mobile device, and (iii) determining that the second timestamp is within a predetermined time period of the first timestamp.
