Network switch circuitry for use in association with a network switch, the network switch to be used in a network, the network switch circuitry to be used in processing associated with network communications that are to be in accordance with multiple different link layer communication protocols, the network communications to be received by and transmitted from the network switch via optical links that are to be coupled between network devices of the network and the network switch, the network switch circuitry comprising:
processor circuitry;
memory storing instructions for being executed by the processor circuitry, the instructions, when executed by the processor circuitry, resulting in the network switch circuitry being configured to enable performance of operations comprising:
switching network communication data associated with (1) at least one of the network communications and (2) at least one other of the network communications;
wherein:
the at least one of the network communications is in accordance with at least one of the multiple different link layer communication protocols; and
the at least one other of the network communications is in accordance with at least one other of the multiple different link layer communication protocols.
