1. A system for producing liquid hydrocarbons from carbon dioxide, the system comprising:
(a) a carbon dioxide reduction electrolyzer comprising a membrane electrode assembly, which comprises one or more ion conductive polymer layers and a cathode catalyst for facilitating chemical reduction of carbon dioxide to carbon monoxide, wherein the cathode catalyst contacts the one or more ion conductive polymer layers, and wherein the carbon dioxide reduction electrolyzer is configured to operate at a temperature no higher than 100° C.; and
(b) a liquid hydrocarbon synthesis reactor configured to produce a liquid hydrocarbon mixture from the carbon monoxide and hydrogen,
wherein the carbon dioxide reduction electrolyzer is configured to produce at least some of the hydrogen, and
wherein the system is configured to transport the carbon monoxide from the carbon dioxide reduction electrolyzer and the hydrogen to the liquid hydrocarbon synthesis reactor.
