1. A catalyst material comprising:
a body having an open-porous foam structure and comprising at least a first metal or alloy;
particles comprising at least a second metal or alloy, wherein each of at least a subset of the particles and the body are structurally connected by means of sintering bridges and the sintering bridges comprise alloys of the metals present in the particles as well as the body, intermetallic phases of those metals or mixed crystals thereof; and
an oxide film formed on at least the subset of the particles, wherein the oxide film has a catalytically active surface.
