1. A system comprising:
a plurality of access point (AP) devices configured to provide a wireless network at a site; and
a network management system (NMS) that manages the plurality of AP devices, the NMS comprising:
a memory storing network data received from the plurality of AP devices; and
one or more processors coupled to the memory and configured to:
determine a specific wireless channel assigned to a first AP device of the plurality of AP devices for providing the wireless network;
determine, for the first AP device, one or more neighboring AP devices that are within a certain proximity of the first AP device;
generate, based on one or more of a geometrical proximity of the one or more neighboring AP devices or a wireless channel set assigned to the one or more neighboring AP devices, a packetized scan command for each of the one or more neighboring AP devices instructing a respective neighboring AP device of the one or more neighboring AP devices to generate one or more signal samples for each channel in a respective scan channel list that includes at least the specific wireless channel assigned to the first AP device, wherein the specific wireless channel is not assigned to the one or more neighboring AP devices for providing the wireless network;
for each packetized scan command, send the packetized scan command to a respective one of the one or more neighboring AP devices;
receive, from the first AP device and each of the one or more neighboring AP devices, signal samples of a client device connected to the first AP device on the specific wireless channel assigned to the first AP device; and
based on the received signal samples, determine a location within the site of the client device connected to the first AP device on the specific wireless channel.

10. The system of claim 1,
wherein a servicing radio of the first AP device is configured to provide one or more client devices access to the wireless network using the specific wireless channel, wherein the one or more client devices includes the client device connected to the first AP device on the specific wireless channel assigned to the first AP device;
wherein a servicing radio of a particular neighboring AP device of the one or more neighboring AP devices is configured to provide the one or more client devices access to the wireless network using an assigned wireless channel that is different from the specific wireless channel; and
wherein to generate the packetized scan command for each of the one or more neighboring AP devices, the one or more processors are configured to generate the packetized scan command for the particular neighboring AP device instructing a monitoring radio of the particular neighboring AP device to continuously scan the specific wireless channel for reception only.

19. Non-transitory computer-readable storage media comprising instructions that, when executed, configure processing circuitry to:
determine a specific wireless channel assigned to a first AP device of a plurality of AP devices configured to provide a wireless network at a site;
determine, for the first AP device, one or more neighboring AP devices that are within a certain proximity of the first AP device;
generate, based on one or more of a geometrical proximity of the one or more neighboring AP devices or a wireless channel set assigned to the one or more neighboring AP devices, a packetized scan command for each of the one or more neighboring AP devices instructing a respective neighboring AP device of the one or more neighboring AP devices to generate one or more signal samples for each channel in a respective scan channel list that includes at least the specific wireless channel assigned to the first AP device, wherein the specific wireless channel is not assigned to the one or more neighboring AP devices for providing the wireless network;
for each packetized scan command, send the packetized scan command to a respective one of the one or more neighboring AP devices;
receive, from the first AP device and each of the one or more neighboring AP devices, signal samples of a client device connected to the first AP device on the specific wireless channel assigned to the first AP device; and
based on the received signal samples, determine a location within the site of the client device connected to the first AP device on the specific wireless channel.
