decode the audio signal based on the header tone to determine the encoded value;
determine, based on a comparison of the encoded value to a first number generated by the apparatus, that the audio signal is associated with the device and that the device is approved to connect to the apparatus;
establish a connection to the device based on determining that the audio signal is associated with the device; and
verify identity of the device based on a first response of the device, wherein the first response includes a hash of the encoded value, the first number generated by the apparatus, and a second number generated using a same seed as the first number.
