1. An electronic gaming system comprising:
at least one memory with instructions stored thereon; and
at least one processor in communication with the at least one memory, wherein the instructions, when executed by the at least one processor, cause the at least one processor to:
receive a first message from a mobile computing device, wherein the first message is associated with a first proximity between the mobile computing device and a first transmitter associated with a first electronic gaming device;
based on the received first message,
determine that the mobile computing device is within a zone of a plurality of zones associated with the first transmitter, wherein the zone is one of a near zone, an intermediate zone, or a far zone based upon a distance relative to the first transmitter;
track an elapsed amount of time that the mobile device is positioned within the zone; and
determine a state of the mobile computing device based upon the tracked amount of time located within the zone; and
based upon the determined state of the mobile computing device, generate a message targeted to a user of the mobile computing device for display on a user interface of the mobile computing device.
