an enclosure defining an ultraviolet (UV) irradiation chamber;
UV lamps positioned in the irradiation chamber;
a moveable drawer comprising a platform for positioning an object, wherein the moveable drawer can move to a closed position in which the object positioned on the platform is located in the irradiation chamber;
a switch for detecting that the drawer is in the closed position; and
a controller, wherein the controller is configured to:
determine a status of the object positioned on the platform;
in response to determining that the status of the object is soiled or damaged, cause the decontamination device to provide a warning and prevent execution of a pre-programmed decontamination cycle;
in response to receiving a signal from the switch indicating that the drawer is in the closed position, automatically activate the UV lamps according to the pre-programmed decontamination cycle; and
deactivate the UV lamps after the pre-programmed decontamination cycle has finished,
wherein the switch is configured to automatically send the signal to the controller when the drawer is moved to the closed position.
