1. A metal organic framework (MOF) composition comprising:
corner metal units comprising metal ion atoms where the metal is selected from Zr, V, Al, Fe, Cr, Ti, Hf, Cu, Zn, Ni, and Ce, and mixtures thereof and linker molecules selected from at least one organic ligand containing an amino group or a combination of at least one organic ligand containing an amino group and at least one organic ligand that does not contain an amino group; the MOF characterized in that it has an average crystal size of at least about 1 μm in at least one dimension, and in which at least 55% of the amino groups are activated amino groups of the form —NH2.
