1. A lockout mechanism for use with a surgical instrument, comprising:
an actuation sled including a cam wedge and a tail portion, the cam wedge being immovable relative to the tail portion, the tail portion extending proximally beyond proximal surfaces of the cam wedge, the actuation sled movable along a longitudinal axis; and
a latch configured to engage the tail portion of the actuation sled when the actuation sled is in a proximal position relative to the latch, wherein when the actuation sled is in a proximal-most position, the latch is prevented from moving to a position where a portion of the latch is aligned with the longitudinal axis.
