An unbleached oxidized softwood cellulose kraft pulp comprising a copper number of from about 1 to about 7, a carboxyl content of from about 3 meq/100 g to about 15 meq/100 g, a 0.5% capillary CED viscosity of less than about 10 mPa·s, and a length-weighted average fiber length of from about 2 mm to about 3.7 mm.
