1. A fixture for maintaining a uniform spacing between a contoured portion and a planar portion of a surface of an article to be printed and a print head of a printer, comprising:
a bracket to which the article to be printed is secured;
an axle supporting the bracket that defines a pivot axis about which the bracket is rotatable;
a biasing member that biases the bracket into a neutral position in which the planar portion of the surface of the article is at the uniform spacing with the print head of the printer; and
a cam surface contactably engageable with the bracket to overcome the biasing member and control pivotal movement of the bracket about the pivot axis, wherein relative movement between the bracket and the cam surface defines a prescribed movement of the bracket about the pivot axis from the neutral position to dispose the contoured portion of the surface of the article at the uniform spacing with the print head of the printer.
