1. A method of providing hemodialysis to a patient comprising steps of:
providing a system for providing the hemodialysis including an arterial blood line for connecting to a patient's artery for collecting blood from the patient, a venous blood line for connecting to a patient's vein for returning the blood to the patient, a dialyzer, a blood flow path connected to the arterial blood line and the venous blood line for transporting the blood from the patient to the dialyzer and back to the patient, a reservoir storing dialysate, a dialysate flow path connected to the reservoir and the dialyzer for transporting the dialysate from the reservoir to the dialyzer, at least one dialysate pump for pumping the dialysate through the dialysate flow path, a blood pump for pumping the blood through the blood flow path, a dialysate flow sensor in the dialysate flow path which measures a flow rate of the dialysate through the dialysate flow path, a control processor connected to the dialysate flow sensor and the at least one dialysate pump, the control processor possessing memory for storing a patient treatment plan by which the patient is treated, the patient treatment plan includes a plurality of different dialysate flow rates during a patient's treatment wherein the plurality of different dialysate flow rates decrease over a time period “T(total)” for treating the patient;
connecting the arterial blood line to the patient's artery;
connecting the venous blood line to the patient's vein;
providing hemodialysis treatment to the patient wherein the dialysate flows through the dialysate flow path at a first flow rate during a first flow period; and
providing the hemodialysis treatment to the patient wherein the dialysate flows through the dialysate flow path at a second flow rate during a second flow period which occurs after the first flow period, and the second flow rate is lower than the first flow rate.
