1. A video signal processing apparatus to generate HDR video for display on an HDR monitor, the apparatus comprising:
first circuitry configured to perforin an Opto-Optical Transfer Function (OOTF) conversion on an input video signal having a signal level, by using (1) a nonlinear function on the input video signal when the signal level is in a first range defined from a first predetermined reference point to a change point, and (2) a linear function when the signal level of the input video signal is in a second range defined from the change point to a second predetermined reference point, the OOTF conversion being analogous to OOTF conversion for an SDR video, wherein a signal level of the change point is greater than a signal level of the first predetermined reference point but less than a signal level of the second predetermined reference point such that signal levels in the first range are less than signal levels in the second range; and
second circuitry configured to perform an Opto-Electronic Transfer Function (OETF) conversion on an output of the first circuitry and generate the HDR video for display on the HDR monitor.
