1. A method to form an image, comprising:
providing an acousto-optic phased-array transducer with an optical element that handles multiple laser beam deflection responses specified by a first and a second radio frequency (RF) inputs in a single device with stepped surfaces thereon;
applying the first RF input to select a first response from the single device to select a first laser beam deflection and applying the second RF input to select a second response to select a second laser beam deflection from the single device;
tuning a desired RF input to the phased-array transducer with a filter;
optically coupling the transducer to a microscope; and
adjusting laser beam deflection parameters of the phased array transducer for the microscope based on the applied first or second RF input.
