1. A process for making an organoselenium compound, comprising reacting a diselenide compound of the formula:

OG Complex Work Unit Chemistry
with a substituted salicylaldehyde of the formula:

OG Complex Work Unit Chemistry
in the presence of ethanol and acetic acid;
wherein the organoselenium compound has the formula I:

OG Complex Work Unit Chemistry
or salt, stereoisomer, or solvate thereof, and wherein
each X is the same and is hydrogen, fluorine, chlorine, bromine, cyano, —NO2, C1-C6 alkyl, or C1-C6 alkoxy.
