1. A method, comprising:
receiving, by an application device, an application-layer request from at least one end-user device;
responsive to the application-layer request: determining, by the application device, whether to instruct a split edge device to perform one or more actions on packets sent to and received from the at least one end-user device after the receipt of the application-layer request by the application device, the split edge device being connected to the at least one end-user device and configured to manage traffic sent to and received from the at least one end-user device and receive commands from the application device; and
sending, by the application device, a set of first commands to the split edge device, wherein the set of first commands comprise the one or more actions.
