1. A method comprising:
at one or more servers with one or more processors and one or more non-transitory memory in a cloud:
receiving from a client device a request for a media URL associated with a media asset;
identifying one or more feature states associated with the client device and the media asset, wherein the one or more feature states indicate activating or deactivating of the one or more features on a content delivery network (CDN) edge node hosting the media asset;
selectively generating a unique token or a common token specifying the one or more feature states based on mappings of tokens to the media asset and the client device; and
sending the media URL referencing the CDN edge node to the client device, wherein the media URL includes the unique token or the common token, and wherein the unique token or the common token triggers changing the one or more feature states on the CDN edge node or bypassing changing the one or more feature states on the CDN edge node prior to obtaining the media asset for the client device.
