1. A system comprising:
an input device structurally configured to be utilized by an operator to control a medical device;
a motion sensor associated with the input device and configured to detect a displacement distance of the input device; and
a control unit configured to:
compare the detected displacement distance to a displacement threshold, wherein the displacement threshold is based on a context of a medical procedure to be performed;
determine a velocity cap defining a maximum velocity of the medical device based on the detected displacement distance; and
control movement of the medical device based on the velocity cap.
