1. An image forming apparatus configured to form
an image on a recording material, comprising:
a transmission unit configured to transmit an ultrasonic wave toward a conveyance path along which the recording material is conveyed;
a reception unit configured to receive a sound wave arisen in the image forming apparatus and the ultrasonic wave transmitted by the transmission unit; and
a control unit configured to switch from a first operation to a second operation after a predetermined number of sheets are conveyed so that the first operation is performed on the predetermined number of sheets and the second operation is performed on a following sheet to be conveyed after the predetermined number of sheets are conveyed,
wherein the first operation is to detect basis weight of the recording material based on the ultrasonic wave received by the reception unit, and
the second operation is to acquire information of the sound wave received by the reception unit.
