1. A method of compressing nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) data, comprising steps:
(a) acquiring NMR data;
(b) acquiring an echo train having a plurality of echo values;
(c) selecting a T1/T2 ratio value;
(d) inverting a first portion of the echo train using the selected T1/T2 value;
(e) reconstructing the inverted echo train using the selected T1/T2 value;
(f) determining a quality measure based in part on a comparison of the reconstructed echo train to the original echo train; and
(g) inverting and compressing, based on a comparison of the quality measure to a threshold, a second portion of the acquired plurality of echo trains using the selected T1/T2 value.
