1. A system comprising:
at least one hardware processor; and
a memory storing instructions that when executed by the at least one hardware processor cause the system to perform operations comprising:
determining a current state of a trip executed for a user by an autonomous vehicle from amongst a plurality of different predefined states of the trip;
identifying a computing device associated with the user;
receiving, from the computing device associated with the user, a request to transition the trip from the current state of the trip to a second state of the trip; and
responsive to receiving the request, causing the autonomous vehicle to perform at least one action associated with the second state of the trip.
