1. A method for operating a means of transport which is equipped with a transport device for transporting an object, comprising the steps of:
i) arranging an object in an arrangement region of the transport device;
ii) contactless measuring of the object with a distance measuring device;
iii) determining a safety zone at the means of transport in dependance of the measurement according to step ii);
wherein during the measurement in step ii), a scanning area divided into a plurality of segments is detected with the distance measuring device,
wherein a “free” or “occupied” state is determined for each of the segments,
and wherein for a segment for which the “occupied” state has been determined, a projection is determined which this segment has relative to the means of transport, wherein the projection is added to an original safety zone in step iii) to safeguard said safety zone during travel of the means of transport.
