1. A system for collecting information from a serial device, comprising:
a processor;
a memory accessible by the processor;
a serial port in communication with the processor for coupling the processor to a serial device;
a network port in communication with processor for coupling the processor to a network; and
a device server running on the processor, the device server having a data capture module configurable to capture data received by the device server from the serial device, the data capture module including a user interface allowing a user to manipulate inputs of the data capture model to configure the data capture model to communicate with the serial device and to extract selected data from the data received from the serial device.
