1. A method performed by an event detection unit, the method comprising:
for each of a plurality of sensors of different types in the event detection unit, each of which is to measure a different characteristic of an event of a particular type,
receiving a sensor reading from that sensor;
obtaining a weight indicating contribution of a sensor reading of that sensor to detection of an event;
generating a non-event probability indicative of whether the sensor reading for that sensor corresponds to a non-event; and
generating an event probability indicative of whether the sensor reading for that sensor corresponds to an event;
generating a combined non-event probability based on the weights and the non-event probabilities from the plurality of sensors;
generating a combined event probability based on the weights and the event probabilities from the plurality of sensors;
determining that an event has been detected based on the combined non-event probability and the combined event probability; and
outputting an indication that the event has been detected in response to said determining.
