1. A method comprising:
at a server system, hosting a computer-implemented online game in which players, during gameplay, incur expenses and receive rewards whose respective in-game values are, in a game interface displayed to a user for playing the online game, denominated in an in-game virtual currency, the online game defining multiple game levels through which players can progress during extended gameplay; and
responsive to a player achieving a particular level increase in which the player progresses from a first game level to a second game level, automatically performing a value adjustment operation that comprises modifying a virtual currency value of one or more features of the online game from the perspective of the player, such that each of the one or more features has different respective virtual currency values in the first and second game levels respectively, gameplay functionality of the one or more features being consistent between the first and second game levels.
