1. An emergency wayfinding lighting unit comprising:
at least one processor;
memory in communication with the at least one processor;
a lighting controller in communication with the processor;
a wide-area network communication device in communication with the at least one processor; and
a light emitting device in communication with the lighting controller,
a pre-programmed wayfinding lighting sequence is stored in the memory
wherein the at least one processor executes the wayfinding lighting sequence to instruct the lighting controller to change at least one property of light emitted from the light emitting device based on the wayfinding lighting sequence, and
wherein execution of the wayfinding lighting sequence is triggered by a communication received from the wide-area network communication device.
