1. A method comprising:
operating an imaging system in a first mode of operation in which at least one component of the imaging system is deactivated, the imaging system including an image sensor having a first field-of-view and a depth sensor having a second field-of-view that at least partially overlaps the first field-of-view;
detecting an object via the depth sensor of the imaging system within the second field-of-view, the depth sensor includes an array of photosensitive cells that acquires distance information for the object in the second field-of-view;
determining, via a processor of the imaging system, object information associated with the object based on the distance information output of the depth sensor, the object information includes depth and position information of the object in three-dimensional space relative to a reference location;
determining whether the object information associated with the object satisfies a specified first criteria; and
transitioning the imaging system from the first mode of operation to a second mode of operation in response to the object information satisfying the specified first criteria, the at least one component being activated in the second mode of operation.
