1. A method comprising:
selecting a plurality of content categories and selecting recommended content items for each content category of the plurality of content categories;
accessing a target duplication value;
calculating an amount of duplication in the selected recommended content items;
determining that the amount of duplication is above or below the target duplication value;
based at least in part on the determining that the amount of duplication is above or below the target duplication value, adjusting at least one of the plurality of content categories or the selected recommended content items based on the amount of duplication being above or below the target duplication value; and
generating for display identifiers for the selected recommended content items in association with their respective content category of the plurality of content categories.
