1. A stereo imaging device, comprising:
a pair of imaging units, each imagining unit comprises a lens and an imaging sensor, said lens having a low distortion region and a high distortion region, the low distortion region being a portion having a distortion smaller than a predetermined amount, the high distortion region being a portion having a distortion larger than the low distortion region;
a controller coupled to the pair of imaging units and configured to:
correct a distortion of an image output by the imaging units,
determine whether a detection target is present within an area photographed through the low distortion region by the pair of imaging units,
upon determining the detection target is present within the area photographed through the low distortion region by the pair of imaging units, output a cutout image of the distortion corrected image, which is obtained by cutting out a limited area that includes the detection target from the area photographed through the low distortion region by the pair of imaging units,
upon determining the detection target is not present within the area photographed through the low distortion region by the pair of imaging units, not cut out an image including the detection target, and
detect the detection target within the cutout image,
wherein an amount of distortion in the low distortion region is 5% or lower.
